CS is widely distributed, in animal tissues where is found in high concent rations playing an important role in different types of
metabolic reactions as well as being a protective agent.
As cartilage component, its main function is to attract water, maintaining and controlling osmotic pressure in the cartilage. This helps in hydration, flexibility and elasticity tissue properties.
As ocular fiber component, it helps in the interaction between fibrilles.
