Functional properties
|
Heparin possesses numerous activities, but the most important is its anticoagulant property.
Heparin forms a complex with Antithrombin III, and inhibits several activated blood coagulation
factors: XIIa, XIa, Xa, IIa, Thrombin and Kallikrein.
It is also used as a thrombolytic, fat-clearing antiartherosclerotic and as a pottentially effective antiinflammatory agent.
