Glucosamine Humans Bioiberica

Glucosamine

For the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis and of joint discomfort.
What is it?

Glucosamine is an amino sugar that acts especially as a precursor in the glycation of proteins and lipids.  It is a component of some glycosaminoglycans, such as hyaluronic acid which, in turn, form part of the extracellular matrix of the majority of connective tissues.

In the chondrocytes, glucosamine is the substrate for synthesising glycosaminoglycans, which are secreted to form part of the extracellular matrix of the cartilage or of the synovial fluid. It also regulates important cellular functions and has anti-inflammatory activity.

It is commercially manufactured through the hydrolysis of exoskeletons of crustaceans in crystalline form into glucosamine hydrochloride or glucosamine sulfate.

How does it work?

Glucosamine, in the form of one of its salts (sulphate or hydrochloride) is considered to be a Symptomatic Slow Acting Drug for Osteoarthritis (SYSADOA), and is currently recommended by national and international therapeutic guidelines.

Numerous clinical trials demonstrate that it reduces joint pain and increases mobility. It can also control disease progression and some studies show that it can reduce the need for knee replacement.

Bioiberica also offers neutraceutical quality glucosamine which is predominantly used as a main ingredient in veterinary and neutraceutical formulations.
