Glucosamine
Articular cartilage is composed of 60/80% water, 8% glycosaminoglycans, which are responsible for maintaining the properties of cartilage, 2% chondrocytes and collagen.
What is it and what is it for?
Glucosamine is a natural glycosaminoglycan present in cartilage which, when administered together with Chondroitin Sulphate, protects against osteoarthritis.
The most important mechanisms of action of glucosamine include:
- Glucosamine, as a structural unit of cartilage.
- Cellular protective effect: eliminates free radicals.
Secondary mechanisms of action have also been identified:
- Blocking the action of metalloproteases.
