  • Bioiberica has developed an algorithm that calculates joint age depending on a number of wear and tear risk factors
  • Age, weight, gender, cracking or deformities in the knees, pain, and flexibility are some of the factors being analyzed
  • More than 40% of the population aged 40 to 65, in particular women, suffer from joint pain
  • Bioiberica will also present Articolágeno™, the first ever food supplement composed of hydrolyzed collagen and magnesium containing Mobilee™, a patented natural ingredient which is rich in hyaluronic acid and that has been scientifically demonstrated to improve joint mobility and strengthen muscles.

All visitors to Bioiberica’s booth at the Saber Vivir Wellness Day will have the opportunity to calculate the age of their joints and evaluate the condition of their knees. Anyone interested just needs to fill out a digital form with all the information needed to make the calculation.

“Age, weight, sex, cracking or deformities in the knees, pain, and degree of flexibility are some of the factors we analyze. A joint age equal to or less than that of the chronological age of the person undergoing the test means that they have good joint health. However, if the age returned by the test is greater than the real one, the person being tested should visit a specialist and will need to work hard to correct any preventable factors”, explained Daniel Martínez, head of the Human Health R&D department at Bioiberica.

The R&D team of this Barcelona-based, joint healthcare specialized biotech firm first carried out an in-depth literature review to identify the risk factors leading to joint wear and tear. Afterwards, they determined the relative importance of every one of them and developed an algorithm to calculate the health of the knees.

Besides, Bioiberica also presented Articolágeno™, the first ever food supplement composed of hydrolyzed collagen and magnesium that contains Mobilee™, a patented, natural ingredient which is rich in hyaluronic acid and that has been scientifically proven to improve joint mobility and strengthen the muscles.

Articolageno™ is recommended for those persons who want to lead a healthy and active lifestyle but who have joint problems. Recent studies conclude that more than 40% of the population aged 40 to 65 suffer from joint pain, especially women who, among other factors, are affected by hormonal changes such as lower estrogen levels due to pregnancy or menopause.

In addition, visitors will receive practical advice to protect their joints on a daily basis, such as the following:

1-     Avoid gaining weight or try losing it if you are overweight. This will reduce the amount of weight borne by the knees.

2-     Use devices that facilitate mobility and reduce the risk of falls such as shower handles or handrails.

3-     Do not self-medicate. If you believe that it is necessary to change your treatment, consult with your doctor to prevent issues.

4-     Adapt daily use devices to reduce strain on your joints. For instance, change traditional water taps (rotating type) for mixer type taps to avoid having to do rotating movements.

5-     Avoid a sedentary lifestyle, as this causes a loss of muscle tone and therefore greater joint instability.

6-     Avoid walking on irregular surfaces or using inadequate shoes. Walking on cobbled surfaces or wearing high heels puts excessive strain on our joints.

7-     Engage in physical activity within your own limits. Choose activities that prevent joint strain, like swimming.

8-     Try to stay in a comfortable position, both when doing an activity and when resting. Some examples: use a cushion for your lumbar region when sitting to watch TV, or use a stool when ironing.

9-     Placing objects at an adequate height reduces the need to flex our knees when doing our daily activity.

10-  Avoid lifting or carrying heavy objects. Use wheeled devices that help you to move heavy things when doing so is unavoidable. Use a shopping cart or other wheeled device instead of carrying a heavy object yourself.
