Joint cartilage is made up of 60/80% water, 8% glycosaminoglycans, which are responsible for maintaining the properties of cartilage, 2% chondrocytes and collagen. Glucosamine is a natural glycosaminoglycan found in cartilage that, when administered together with Chondroitin Sulfate, protects against osteoarthritis.

The most important mechanisms of action of glucosamine include: 

  • Supply of glucosamine, as a structural unit of cartilage.
  • Cellular protective effect: eliminates free radicals.

 

The secondary mechanisms of action also include:

  • Blocking of metalloprotease activity.
