BioVibes: Laia Santiñá

Laia Santiñá, process engineer / Fast track, is the protagonist of a new session of our BioVibes, an initiative to get to know the Bioiberica family better through first-person portraits of employees from all our departments. Laia tells us about her day-to-day work, what it means to be part of a team that acts as the "plant's firefighters," and why Bioiberica represents opportunity and growth for her.

"Every day we can have a fire to put out, and the best way to handle it as a department is with smiles. We're the plant's firefighters," Laia explains about her work on the Fast Track team.

"This July I celebrated 10 years at the company," Laia Santiñá, Fast Track technician at Bioiberica, tells us. Laia began her career in a development department and five years ago made the leap to Fast Track, where she found her true calling. "Our main objective is to optimize production processes and we pursue continuous improvement," she explains.

Fast Track is a unique department

"We're a department with people who have been here for many years, with extensive knowledge, and there are also very young people who need to benefit from this knowledge," Laia points out. This generational diversity is key to the team's functioning, where experience and fresh perspectives complement each other perfectly.

"My day-to-day involves plant visits and many laboratory tests," Laia describes. But what really defines her work and that of her team is their ability to respond to unforeseen situations. "Every day we can have a fire to put out, and the best way to handle it as a department is with smiles. We're the plant's firefighters."

This positive attitude toward daily challenges is precisely what characterizes the Fast Track team. Their name says it all: act fast. They're the first resource when a production problem arises, always ready to find immediate solutions without losing their smile along the way.

Opportunity and growth

For Laia, working at Bioiberica means much more than just a job. "I would define Bioiberica with two words: opportunity and growth," she affirms with conviction. And her 10-year experience backs this up: "Bioiberica gives you the opportunity to grow and learn day by day, and that's captivating."

In such a significant year as this, when we celebrate our 50th anniversary, Laia reflects on the keys to Bioiberica's success over these five decades. "I believe Bioiberica's evolution over these 50 years comes mainly because we haven't just focused on making the product, but we've also figured out what to do with all the waste that's generated: circularity."

This vision of circular economy, ahead of its time, has been fundamental to the company's sustainable growth. "Our technology is based on extraction, and that requires a lot of knowledge from many years," Laia explains, highlighting the importance of the know-how accumulated over decades of research and development.
